A Great Father and Son Hunt

Dr. Mike Fisher and his son Landon hunted with us this past November 19th and 20th. After the having a great morning glassing the pastures and senderos. Landon said I want to hunt a Black Hawaiian Ram. The day began to look like a bad storm was going to cause us to shifted to hunting plans. We had rain on by nine in the morning. We had seen some good rams in the brush earlier and decided to come for them after a good breakfast and let the rain pass us by.

Dr. Fisher already knew what he wanted a Pure European Mouflon Ram. we had spotted several but I told Dr. Fisher wait for other Rams to show up. The ones we had seen were all gold medal Rams measuring in the horn lengths of 30 above.

We arrived back at the ranch by eleven am and decided that the drizzle would not harm us and went for the Black Hawaiian ram. after spotting two good rams we decided to go after one  which had a heavier bose.

After having several other rams spook the Black Hawaiians into the brush the game was on. We headed for the sendero to get ready since they would all be running across it.

Seeing a good Texas Dall run past us and two more Black Hawaiians that we had not seen. We waited for all the rams to cross the sendero and just like always the second to the last ram to cross was the one we were stalking.

Landon relaxed and fired when everything was clear. He brought down the ram with one shot from free standing  off hand shot of 90 yards. After field dressing the Ram we took it back to camp to have the Taxidermist take care of the trophy properly.

we decided to go back quickly since we had seen two very good mouflons on the hill , while we were driving back to the Ranch house.

we spotted several and started to glass each and every ram. We counted and saw about fifteen exceptional rams but not the one we saw on the hill. The earlier ram did not give us a shot it ran of quickly.

After an hour of glassing we saw three very good rams with the one on the hill. in the middle of about thirty animals.  We both said now it going to be a waiting game. We positioned ourselves for a good shot if he moved clear from the rest. No chance it took us nearly two hours for them to start to move and finally make a mistake. Dr. Fisher shot him square and the ram ran for about sixty yards and fell.

It was a massive ram with 35 1/4 on the left horn and 29 1/2 on the right making it Gold Medal .  Dr. Fisher said even with the right horn burred off its still a great animal and look at its size. Many forget that Mouflon fight on a regular basis. you will find at least one dead ram during mating season and we just went through one in October.

We arrived back at the Ranch and got ready for some hog hunting in the evening. driving around we saw around twenty hogs trotting towards a feeder.

We glassed at several boars in the sendero when suddenly a huge boar that definitely over sized the rest pranced out from the brush. For ten minutes we waited for a clear shot. As soon as it was clear I heard a thud and a boar kicking on the ground.

The boar weighed around 180 to 200lbs. Good and solid with a thick shield on its shoulders. Dr. Fisher placed the shot well in the kill zone just behind the ear.

We drove to the next sendero and we spotted several sows with piglets and feral hog with good mass and decided to stop and wait for a while for the next boars to cross us.

During our wait we watched Sika Deer feed as well as Scimitar Oryx cross the sendero. A feeder went off near us and three good size boars ran down the sendero. Landon was ready and I told him to take the second Boar.

Landon with a great shot dropped the boar on its tracks with a shot between the ears.

After the hunt we laughed and joked ate dinner. It is always a pleasure hunting with hunters that enjoy hunting. Seeing their smiles and telling the stories of there hunts and seeing good animals harvested is why I opened the doors of Las Auras to hunters .
