Aoudad Hunting in Texas

The Aoudad is a very hardy evasive and intelligent animal with an incredible ability to retain water for long periods of time and live in harsh habitats that are too harsh for other animals. Its abilities combined with a great sense of smell, hearing and alertness to danger; make it a very challenging animal to hunt.

Many hunt for the sport and others for a trophy, in my opinion Aoudads are both. They weigh between 90 pounds to 310 pounds and standing 2.5 to 3.5 feet at the shoulder. Usually they live in the wild for 22 years. Both males and females sport ringed triangular shape horns curving out, backwards and in average horns on an adult male are approximately 24 inches. Yet, trophy Aoudads with 25-29 inches and gold medal rams of 30 to 34-inch horns available but are rare. Females have horns that are not quite as long, but they still make a great trophy.

These hunts are 2 1/2 days in length and are fully guided with two hunters to one guide. You can fly into Laredo or San Antonio, Texas the day before your hunt and rent a car, then you can drive to Crystal City, Texas where we will meet you (1 1/2 hour drive). Plan on being in Crystal City, Texas no later than 3pm central time. Non-hunting companions are welcome for a fee of $200 per day.

We will place you on a Trophy Aoudad Ram you'll be proud to hang on your wall. They typically score between 25 - 32 inches: which are very large trophies. I will personally have your Trophy Aoudad scored and entered into the Trophy Game Records books upon harvest of your trophy.

Year round, we offer hunts for awesome Trophy Aoudad Sheep. There are no seasonal restrictions on hunting the Aoudad Sheep in Texas, which makes it a suitable trophy year round.

I have been trying to make it a bit easier for those by setting out and trying to understand the different patterns of the herds that we have. For those seeking great rams the time frame is usually the mid weeks of August due to there rut, that is when the huge herds are seen. Then the rams go into bachelor herds for the remainder of the year.

Some shots are down at 200 plus yards while some maybe as close as 50 but in thick brush the the aoudad hiding in the picture at the left.

Aoudads or Barbary sheep are in fact one of Texas most difficult Trophy hunts !
